“Snow White” by David G. Ferrero
The Evil Queen
2012
20x20 oil on canvas.
I wish the photo of this was better… but here’s the latest in my villains portrait series. I had the lovely Ophelia Chong (she’s on tumblr! Chonglish!) for my model. She was perfectly menacing.
Next up: Ursula!
Fairest of All by Serena Valentino
Fairest of All is the story of the Wicked Queen, who she was before she married the king, and who she longed to be before she was destroyed by her vanity and the need to murder her daughter Snow White. It is a bloody tale of abuse, heartbreak, love and grief, and the lure of a mysterious man in an enchanted mirror. Published by Disney Press and available in all major bookstores and Amazon.
Serena Valentino is the author of the GloomCookie and Nightmares & Fairy Tales comics, among other things. Her next Disney villain novel is about the Beast from Beauty and the Beast.
Anyone else interested in seeing these two upcoming fairy tale inspired shows? I think I’m more intrigued by Once Upon a Time, but Grimm has potential to be a good fantasy procedural series.
I’ve reblogged the Grimm poster (nothing new since Comic-Con yet) but these are the latest posters for Once Upon a Time (I have reblogged them, but here they are next to each other!). I think there’s one more not shown here though, of Snow.
One of five posters for ABC’s Once Upon a Time (premiering Sunday October 23) released at San Diego Comic-Con 2011. Check out the other 4 at the link below.
Queen and the Magic Mirror, mixed media on paper, 1938. By Gustaff Tenggren
I really like how it is inspired from Disney’s Snow White (1937, this says 1938—while I don’t know if the year is accurate, I would like to think that this is early Disney fan art =)) while still being different looking. The mirror is nearly the same but the Queen is very different (though the crown w/the hood/headdress is similar. I wonder if this is based on royal headwear from a particular period or country…)
