The Illustrated Grimm’s Fairy Tales: Eight Sinister Tales from the Brothers Grimm pop up book illustrated by Vladimir Stankovic
OK … first art piece of 2014: “Strollin’” … my print for Gallery 1988’s “Fairy Tales” show which opens this Friday, the 10th at Gallery 1988 West.
I wanted to make something that was not only ridiculously cute (in contrast to the grim nature of the original German tale), but also tells basically the whole story of Hansel and Gretel in one (silly) image.
I started a companion piece (for another fairy tale) to also put in this show, but a back-injury mishap kept me from being able to finish it, so if this one is well received, I may post the other design in my Etsy shop down the road. Honestly, I could’ve done an entire book of these, it was such a joy to draw. Thanks to 1988 for the super fun theme.
Can’t wait to see everyone’s prints!!

FRACTURED FAIRY TALE SHOW

These three paintings were done for the Fractured Fairy Tale Show, a group art show at WWA Gallery in Culver City. I chose to paint Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and The Three Bears and Hansel and Gretel.
